About Structural Heart Care Services

Structural heart disease refers to problems affecting the heart valves and other important structures of the heart. This service is designed for patients who may need advanced valve evaluation and catheter-based treatment instead of open heart surgery. It focuses on modern, evidence-based structural heart care for selected patients with valve narrowing, valve leakage, and related conditions.

Conditions Treated

This service covers evaluation and management of:

Aortic stenosis
Mitral regurgitation
Tricuspid regurgitation
Selected patients with atrial fibrillation who may benefit from left atrial appendage closure
Other complex structural and valvular heart conditions requiring advanced assessment

Procedures Offered

Depending on the patient’s condition and anatomy, this service may include:

TAVI / TAVR for selected patients with severe aortic valve disease
TEER for selected patients with mitral or tricuspid valve leakage
Left atrial appendage closure in selected atrial fibrillation patients
Comprehensive structural heart evaluation and treatment planning

These procedures are minimally invasive and are often considered when open heart surgery may be high risk or not suitable.

Ideal Patients for Structural Heart Care Service

This service may be appropriate for patients who:

✓Have severe valve disease
✓Experience breathlessness, fatigue, chest discomfort, or fainting
✓Have been told they are high risk for open heart surgery
✓Are elderly or frail and need a less invasive option

Importance of Structural Heart Treatment

Many patients with structural heart disease need timely access to expert assessment and advanced treatment options. This service brings focused structural heart expertise to Bhubaneswar, helping patients receive local care for complex valve disease without needing to travel to larger metro cities for every stage of evaluation and treatment.

Fellowship and Expertise

🎓

Structural Heart Fellowship — Budapest, Completed

Dr. Gyana Ranjan Nayak has completed a three-month structural heart fellowship at the Gottsegen National Cardiovascular Centre (GOKVI), Budapest, training under Prof. Andreka Peter, Dr. Fontos Geza, Dr. Pinter Tunde, Dr. Piroth Zsolt, and Dr. Ahres Abdelkrim.

During the fellowship, he completed 50 TAVI procedures as a primary operator and observed around 200 TAVI procedures across different valve systems and approaches. He was also part of several other structural heart procedures, including mitral TEER, tricuspid TEER, transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation (TPVI), left atrial appendage closure, PFO closure, and paravalvular leak (PVL) closure.

This international, hands-on training strengthens his ability to offer this specialized service in Bhubaneswar with a focused approach to high-risk and elderly patients.
